Discover EU Inclusion – Ready to Go
Context
DiscoverEU – Ready to Go is an international mobility project designed for 18-year-old young people with fewer opportunities, implemented by the Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation as part of the European Union’s DiscoverEU Inclusion initiative.
The project started from a simple reality: not all young people have the chance to travel, explore other cultures, or feel like they are truly part of Europe.
The lack of financial resources, family support, or self-confidence often holds them back.
Ready to Go was specifically created for these young people – offering not just a train ticket, but an entire journey of preparation, guidance, and reflection.
Within the project, 20 young people who have never travelled abroad are selected and supported in planning their own journey across Europe, accompanied by youth workers and guided every step of the way.
The experience is holistic – from preparatory workshops to small group mobility, and from reflection sessions to validation of learning.
For many, this first trip outside their home country becomes much more than a journey – it’s an empowering experience that boosts their confidence, independence, and desire to become active in their communities.
Objectives
The aim of the project is to support the social inclusion and mobility of young people who have never had the opportunity to travel abroad, by offering them an international learning experience tailored to their pace and needs.
Through DiscoverEU – Ready to Go, mobility becomes accessible, safe, and educational – a real chance for young people to feel part of Europe.
The project aims to:
-
offer young people the opportunity to travel independently and safely, within a supportive framework that encourages them to step out of their comfort zone, explore new cities and cultures, and navigate unfamiliar environments;
-
prepare them before departure through non-formal education workshops, where they learn to manage a budget, communicate in foreign languages, solve problems, and work in teams – all in a friendly, accessible format adapted to their prior experiences;
-
contribute to the development of personal autonomy, self-confidence, and life skills by giving young people the chance to make decisions, adapt, take on responsibilities, and recognise their strengths in an international context;
-
create spaces for reflection on European identity, cultural diversity, and responsibility towards others, encouraging intercultural dialogue, empathy, and a sense of belonging to a wider European community.
