Study on service needs among parents of children and young people with ASD
This study is based on case studies— in-depth interviews with parents of children diagnosed with ASD who access therapy services— and a sociological survey conducted via questionnaires. Conducted between November and December 2014, with the support of 9 NGOs and 10 DGASPCs, the study involved parents of children aged 0-4 years (26%), 5-9 years (47%), 10-14 years (20%), and over 15 years (7%).
Participating parents were mostly young people aged 36-40 (66%), from urban areas (83%), with high school and university education (60%). Regarding self-assessed resources 70% of participants self-evaluate their financial situation as not very good but manageable, with 17% living in rural areas, highlighting limited therapy options for rural residents.
We conducted the project “Strengthening Local Counseling and Support Services for Parents of Children and Adolescents with ASD”, funded by the EEA Grants 2009-2014, under the NGO Fund in Romania.
